The autumn 2021 election of the European Geoscience Union (EGU) is now open for the next Union President, General Secretary and Division Presidents. Prof. Georgia (Gia) Destouni from Stockholm University, the lead partner of the Swedish MAL3 case and the co-lead partner of the Greek MAL2 case in COASTAL, is one of the candidates for presidency of the Hydrological Sciences Division
Prof. Destouni is among the most creative and visionary scientists in hydrology and water resources and has maintained leadership in revolutionary research on hydro-climate, water resource availability and quality, and their shifts due to changes in human activity, climate, and other environmental aspects. She works on both global and regional scales in various parts of the world, including the Baltic, Arctic, Central and East Asian, Balkan and Mediterranean regions. She is the Editor in Chief of the AGU journal Water Resources Research, member of the Council of Trustees of WWF Sweden, and have been Secretary General of the Swedish Research Council Formas, Vice President of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), and member of the scientific advisory committee of Science Europe. Prof. Destouni has also received the EGU Henry Darcy Medal in 2013.
