The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) is a large Governmental Research Centre under the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. It comprises three Institutes: Oceanography; Fisheries & Inland Waters; Marine Biology, Genetics & Aquaculture. The staff totals approximately 480 people comprising researchers, scientists, technicians and administrative employees. HCMR will coordinate WP2 with SU as co-leader, and will contribute to WP1, WP3 and WP4. HCMR will coordinate the Multi-Actor Lab for the SW Messinia case study, together with the Navarino Environmental Observatory.
The Department of Physical Geography at SU conducts research on water and climate interactions; water quality - not least regarding agricultural nutrient loading to inland and coastal waters; sustainable urban/rural development; and environmental impacts and solution policies, for example, in the context of the EU Water Framework Directive. In COASTAL, SU leads the work on the Baltic coastal case study and co-leads the work on the Greek coastal case study, as SU also operates the Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO) with focus on the climate and environment of the Mediterranean region.
