Economic development in the coastal area of the Danube Delta region through agriculture

Through COASTAL, ICEADR wanted to evaluate the current level of agriculture development and the potential of this economic branch in Tulcea County, which includes the Danube Delta reservation. Given that only 10% of the surface of the reserve represents a dry area, agricultural (vegetable) activities cannot be undertaken in this area, thus, the agricultural areas of the entire county were taken into account. Although in the Danube Delta, agriculture is not the main activity, it is intensively practised on the agricultural lands of Tulcea county, these being used mainly for the production of cereals and oil products: wheat, corn, sunflower, rapeseed and fodder crops. This activity can develop the local economy by creating added value by processing the obtained production, as well as by investments made in this sector.
