ICRE8 was happy to welcome its COASTAL’s partners to Athens, Greece in January 2019 to work on developing causal loop diagrams from the mental models developed during the six workshops with stakeholders for Work Package 1.

Deliverable D3 Sectoral Analysis of Coastal and Rural Development is submitted to the EC.

This deliverable from WP1 reports on results from six case areas of the COASTAL project, where workshops took place in M3-9 of the project period (Task 1.1 Sectoral Analysis of Coastal & Rural Development of WP1).

Coastal areas are environmentally fragile but also attractive areas where business opportunities in many sectors are dependent on the environmental qualities affected by activities in hinterlands. 

Deliverable D12 Model Scope and Feedback Structure is submitted to the EC.

Prepared by VITO (Belgium) with contributions from the partners VITO (BE), HCMR (GR), SU (SE), IRSTEA (FR), INCDM(RO), ICEADR (RO), CSIC (ES) this deliverable from WP4 provides an overview of the problem scope and feedback mechanisms in the context of land-sea interaction for the six case studies (multi-actor labs).

The Research Institute for the Economy of Agriculture and Rural Development organized on 15 November 2018 the 9th Edition of the International Symposium "Agrarian Economy and Rural Development - Realities and Perspectives for Romania" in Bucharest.

The National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” of Constanta marks the celebration of the International Black Sea Day by organizing three workshops, on 30 and 31 October 2018, in the framework of the European Horizon 2020 Project COASTAL (Collaborative Land-Sea Integration Platformea), with the themes “Blue Growth”, “Fisheries and aquaculture” and “Tourism”.

COASTAL project coordinator, Jean-Luc De Kok attended the kick-off meeting of the H2020 co-funded project WASTE FEW ULL on 12 October at Bath University (UK), and gave a presentation on the COASTAL approach.  

COASTAL WP1 Leader, Senior Research Scientist Rachel Tiller from SINTEF Ocean is the Norwegian representative to the management committee of the OceanGov: Ocean Governance for Sustainability – Challenges, Options and the Role of Science COST Action help liaising between the two projects. 

COASTAL was presented by HCMR at the 12th Panhellenic Symposium of Oceanography & Fisheries «Blue Growth for the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion and the Eastern Mediterranean» Ionian University, Corfu, 30 May – 3 June 2018. Link: Abstract of presentation

Co-operation activities are envisaged in the RUR-01-2016 topic. Contacts with the ROBUST project (Rural-Urban Outlooks: Unlocking Synergies) consortium have been established.

29 partners from 9 European countries came together in Brussels between 5 and 8 June 2018 to mark the start of the four-year research project COASTAL: Collaborative Land Sea Integration Platform.
